College Counseling 101

My First Hub
Since this is my first hub, I thought I should introduce myself and my hub. I am a retired high school guidance counselor with over 30 years experience. I have worked in the public school system for my entire career. I have worked in several different school systems and have learned from both my students and my colleagues over the years. I have been a member of NACAC, the National Association for College Admissions Counseling for many years. I plan to share my experience in high school academic counseling and college planning counseling with students and parents looking for information about dealing with high school and planning for college.
I realize that not every high school student is planning to attend Princeton, or other Ivy League colleges. In fact, there are many families struggling with the kinds of motivational issues preventing their children from even finishing high school. And of course the vast majority of students are probably somewhere in the middle and will probably attend a two-year community college or a four-year state college. I plan to talk about these issues as well.
Finally, in these rough economic times, paying for college is definitely on the minds of many families. I plan to share my knowledge of the financial aid process in this hub as well. Just understanding the process is difficult enough, but then actually completing the process in a timely manner to get the aid for which you are eligible is also a huge battle.
In addition to providing this information, I hope to help you advocate for yourself and/or your children as you attempt to navigate the high school guidance office and college admissions offices. I also hope to allow this hub to be guided by the comments I receive from those reading it. Hope to hear from you soon.
